Kelly

When I first began shooting in portrait studios during my college breaks, I never dreamed one day photography would become my life's passion. I am not saying "Oh, I never dreamed..." in a humble kind of cliche way, actually I was naturally pretty good at studio work. I have always loved working with children and creating anything. I never dreamed it because quite frankly, even the expensive studio experience was so stressful. Frazzled faces of hurried mothers at Christmas time shouting "Say Cheese!" still haunt my dreams.

After college I took a job teaching preschool and later elementary art. I started taking pictures of the children there and discovered a more candid approach to photography. Parents and fellow teachers began to tell me how I somehow managed to capture the spirit and personality of the children within my photographs and paintings.

Shortly after the birth of my first child my husband gave me a gift that forever changed my life. My first REAL camera. My son became my favorite model. As I proudly passed out his pictures, family and friends soon began to ask me to photograph their children, families and pets.

Word spread in what seemed like a very short amount of time I began receiving more requests than I could handling teaching full time and taking care of two small children.

I poured myself into learning the technical side of photography and upgraded my equipment. I combined my experience as a studio photographer, teacher and classically trained painter. I made it my goal and created a small personal photography business that grew because I made my clients very happy and as excited about photography as I am. This new business allowed me more time with my own children and to still teach a couple of hours a week. I do love my students!

Of course by now I had discovered that portrait photography doesn't have to be stressful. I was having so much fun meeting new people and creating these pictures for them. My clients were enjoying themselves too. Relaxed and natural, their personalities shined through. That is what parents want to capture and I knew that as a mom too.

My sessions are forty-five minutes long so there is no rush. My clients choose the location. Often it is their home or a favorite park. I use mostly natural light. My pricing is simple. I allow my subjects to be themselves.

Because I am an avid horse enthusiast, Equine Photography fills a special niche in my business. To me it doesn't matter if yours is a beloved family pet or part of your business investment.

Thank you for taking the time to look at my pictures and to read my story. Photography is my passion and I truly hope I can help you to create portraits that you and your family will enjoy for generations to come!
